April 19, 2016

Hey home-slices,

Ohhh man this week has been crazy. Like, actually crazy. Sorry I
didn't email yesterday, I forgot to tell you that p day is today
because we had a mission wide service project yesterday where we
planted 400 trees at osu and it was way fun! I'll include a picture of
us and some sisters we are over. What if I go to OSU when I get home?
Hahahaha hahahaha just kidding #poor

Well we had an awesome week with church attendance this week, we had
8! Our mission standards of excellence are 2. And our mission average
is less than 1. But let me tell you, it was all thanks to a) the
spirit and b) the incredible ward here. We had so many people willing
to sit with and direct investigators and make them feel welcome that
we weren't stressing way bad the whole time like we should have been.
#blessed

I'll tell you about a few of them... Damien was found a while back but
he was recently jumped and has been recovering. We had a really cool
lesson with him where he felt the spirit and love of. God so strong.
He's willing to do just about anything to come closer to God at this
point! It's awesome. We got Him a ride to church and gave him a
"chapel tour" afterwards and when we showed him the picture of Christ
in the garden of gethsemane he immediately staring crying, and the
spirit was so strong! He loves his savior. And he had a great time at
church! I think he has struggled with feeling accepted in the past and
he really felt that this is where he belongs. He's right :)

Samantha, Ashley, and Brittany are our teenage investigators. Brittany
couldn't make it to church last week but this week we had a lesson
with her and had her say the prayer. She was nervous at first, but as
she started praying it was beautiful! She paused and was overwhelmed
with the spirit. It was so powerful! As she ended she looked up at us
and said with tear-filled eyes "sorry. My eyes just hurt. And I also
really like this kind of stuff" haha she's so cute! They all had a
great time at church as well :)

So for the crazy things, it seems that every person we teach has all
of a sudden been hit with huge trials that only God can help them
through. It seems that 1/3 of our investigators are in the hospital
1/3 are contemplating suicide and 1/3 are wanting to be baptized but
have some things to work through due to parole. I don't tell you this
to make you depressed! I've just been thinking a lot about the
situations. I love these people a lot and so sometimes I feel like I
am living 700 different really horrible situations. So I couldn't help
but question for a slight second "if Christ carried everyone's burden,
why am I in a position where I have to carry them as well?" And I
started to realize more fully the purpose of life. I feel as though as
Gods children we all have to go through things that make us stronger.
As we live and apply Christ atonement in our life, we kind of become
part of his atonement. Maybe that's why Mosiah 18 tells us about our
covenant obligation to "mourn with those that mourn and comfort those
that stand in need of comfort" Christ promises is that these burdens
can be made easy, maybe by us, but through Him. THE GOSPEL IS SO
INCREDIBLE! Don't be afraid to take on the difficult task of
understanding someone's trial enough to help them with it. It may be
hard, but the outcome is everlasting joy and greater understanding of
Christ.

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!

April 11, 2016

Hey fam moly,

Ok so thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes! Also for the fun
packages, sister Pollmann and I have enjoyed it a lot! Mannnn why do I
have the best family eva?  Ok let me think of what has even happened
this week my life is cray but in a good way. We had double exchange
this week so my brain is fried but we had so many cool miracles!! On
Tuesday, we found 15 new investigators in 1 day and we now have 19
people with baptismal date so June is looking pretty promising for us!
I'll tell you some of the miracles:

So we are teaching a deaf lady named Rhonda which is super cool. We
skype in the new Albany sisters because sister Alexander can do sign
language, but it's awesome because the gift of tongues (or hands) is
so real and we can actually communicate with her super well even
though she has always been deaf! Her husband is very against us coming
over so we had the other sister tell Ronda (because she didn't know
her husband had confronted us) and she was basically like " oh whateva
we'll just kick him out." Haha she was Jehovah's Witness before but
she is so excited to get baptized!!

Another miracle was meeting a guy named Ryan. Sister Pollmann and
sister parsons found him on exchanges and I've never met a more
prepared person ever. He told them that as they walked up something
told him that he was about to learn the truth. As we have taught about
e Book of Mormon he catches on so quickly and immediately can quote
bible references that support it! It's so cool. He knows the Book of
Mormon is true and that the plan of salvation is too! He remembered
the 3 kingdoms because when he was a kid he attended a Mormon church
once because a stranger came to his door and said "a little blond boy
here needs to come to church" and the mom was like " uh, Ryan is my
only blond boy" and somehow let him go. ISNT THAT CRAZY??? So he has
overcome a lot in his life and due to some circumstances won't be able
to get baptized for 2 more years and we were so nervous to break the
news to him but he completely understands and said he'll "just dive
into the font" when he can be baptized! He's so humble and awesome and
wants to go on a mission!! Mind you, we met him less than a week ago.

Ok another cool thing, sister Alexander and I on exchanges went to
teach a potential investigator I had never met and there were tons of
people living there and it's was crazy and awkward at first but we
asked if we could share a message with them and we sat down, had a
prayer, and had an amazing lesson!! We taught their whole family (that
was home) and we were trying to get their mom to say the prayer, and
no one wanted to say it because they were nervous and it turned in to
this battle of "well YOU need to pray for your husband so you say it"
and " no you need to pray for school so YOU say it" and on and on so
we settled on having a big prayer circle where we would each say
something we were thankful for and something we wanted to ask God. It
was incredible! They ALL said prayers and everyone was teary eyed. Two
of the daughters, Samantha and Ashley, came to church this week. It
was awesome!

On exchanges we also met a couple, he was baptist and she was pagan
lady who is basically a witch which was very interesting. We talked
with them super briefly before they said they had to go back inside so
we gave them a pamphlet and set up a time. Oh me of little faith
figured the return appointment would probably fall though AND LO AND
BEHOLD we get there and she has the pamphlet on the table and is like
" I read it. Tell me about it now" and it was way cool! Her husband
didn't want to listen to us so he was making dinner in the other room.
After long dispute we got her to pray and we asked her how she felt.
"Hungry" she says and assuming she's talking about her prepared
burrito that was waiting for in the the kitchen we kinda giggled and
said something like " well we hope your dinner is good to you" and
she's like " no, my soul is hungry. Which o guess means I need to be
reading more of what you have" oh what?? So that was super cool. Her
name is Michelle and she is way awesome.

Ahhh ok I'm so out of time. I only got through like, a third of them. Sorry.

I love you all so much!!!!

Pictures 4/4

I finally got these pictures from the Daines. These were taken at
Christmas and it's the diabetics of the mission hahahahaha can you
guess which 3 are from Viewmont??
Sometimes when you are in Newark there are just giant baskets in
the middle of nowhere.

April 4, 2016

Hellllloooooo!

I still absolutely LOVE this area! Sister Pollmann is from Beaver Utah and she
has been out for 8 months, she has been in Newark for 1 transfer.
She's really just awesome.
And ok here is my birthday wish list:

- a bunch of those kids ctr rings-- we teach and find lots of families
here and I ran out quick!
-a cheap paperback Book of Mormon. (1 sent to me, but then one for
everyone in the family in preparation for the challenge I'm going to
give you when we skype next month)
- for you guys to be happy and heathy and have the spirit with you a lot.
-and nothing else. Man I love you guys.

Ok let me tell you some of my life I guess:

We are teaching this coolest family ever: Jessica and Coleman and
their kids Emily, Kameron, and Savannah. The first time I went over
Savannah said probably 30x "I'm not used to you." Or "I'm used to
sister Pollman and sister Bradford" and during the lesson she would
point her styrofoam sword at me, squint her eyes, and say "not. Used.
To you." And as much as she might hate to admit it I think she warmed
up to me and she gave me a hug at the end and whispered in my ear
"still not used to you." Hahaha baby steps but they are seriously the
most flawless things ever. Jessica has diabetes so that's a good time
except not really at all because it has completely messed up her
intestines and she has this crazy condition that puts her in a lot of
pain and she throws up a lot. Satan is the worst and somehow she ended
up in the hospital on most Sunday's she wanted to come to church, as
well as this week when her and her family were going to watch
conference with another family in the ward. We went and visited her
and it was really hard to see but she has the most faith of just about
anyone I have met! Sister Bradford and sister Pollmann found her their
first day together so it's only been a transfer and she has already
read the Book of Mormon, bible, pearl of great price, and doctrine and
covenants. SHE IS SO AMAZING. They are working towards baptism but
between marriage and surgery it is a complicated process. But we
aren't giving up on their date of April 23rd!

When I got here, because it was my first day and sister Bradford and
Pollmann first door they knocked together was Jessica, we had as an
event on the schedule " find a Jessica" the cool thing is hat the
first door sister Pollmann and I knocked together was a guy named Nick
who claimed to not believe in God. But as we talked with him it was
very apparent that he did, he just didn't know what to believe. We
gave him a Book of Mormon and by the time we came back he was on (as
he called it) " Nephis 2nd" and he has been able to understand the
Book of Mormon so well and without us even saying anything he just
applies it to his life! It's so cool! He's still a little skeptical
but his heart is softening and we can see it!

We had a chapel tour with a couple names Sean and Ashley and their 2
kids. Sean is covered in tattoos and piercing and Gages and he is the
most sincere guy I have ever met. They both felt the spirit so
strong!! It was seriously incredible. As we were sitting in the chapel
at the end and Sister Pollmann was playing the piano he turns to me
and says "I can see myself going to church here. I can see myself
getting baptized" and they are now working toward June 11 th! They are
so great.

I wish I had time to tell you about everyone and everything. We
accidentally took way to long of a nap today though (we didn't get one
last pday)

Anyway I love you all so so so much and I hope you have the best week ever :)
